Bitter Blood Orange Martini
I just love the intense orange flavor or blood oranges. My first exposure to them was while studying in Germany. There was a gelato cart near my residence where I limited myself to once scoop on the way home from class per day. Once I tried the blood orange gelato there was no going back. I’m not sure I ever made it through the rest of the flavors the gentleman sold.
This martini is a tribute to that experience. Full flavored with just enough bitterness to offset the sweetness. With the soda float this is lot of volume, I use my oversized martini glasses for this baby.
Instructions

This recipe has two ingredients you might think are hard to find: Blood Orange Soda and Pomegranate molasses. Don’t fret, Both Whole Foods and Trader Joes usually carry the blood orange Italian soda year round. You can find pomegranate molasses at any Middle Eastern or international grocer. If you are not familiar with your locally owned store, reach out to Amazon for a brand like this. (Molasses)
Ingredients
- 1.5 oz Vodka
- 1 oz Orange Liqueur
- .5 oz Parma Liqueur
- .5 oz Campari
- Blood Orange Italian Soda
Garnish
- Pomegranate molasses
- Orange Slice or Peel

Before you start mixing drizzle the pomegranate molasses along the inside of the glass. You don’t want to be fiddling around with this while the drink gets watered down in the shaker.

Add all the ingredients EXCEPT the blood orange soda to the shaker.
Fill the shaker with ice and shake until the outside is frosty cold. Strain into your drizzled martini glass. Depending on your martini glass size you will want to stop about an inch from the top of the glass.
Top the martini with chilled blood orange soda. Stop just below the edge or the rim.
Garnish with a orange peel or an orange slice.
Enjoy! and let me know what you think!
